A tweet from Newsnight’s economic editor, Paul Mason who has made it out to Istanbul to cover the ongoing demonstrations:
To which another user replied:
I’m interested to see how he’s managed to get around with seemingly little knowledge of the area and no map to assist. Actually, from the sounds of it it’s a 1,2,3 punch of language barrier, no map and no mobile network. Shows how precarious reporting can be.
I’m a week or two late to this but Novara Media have an excellent discussion with Paul Mason (Newsnight) on his new book ‘Why It’s (Still) Kicking Off Everywhere’ (Verso). Talk of technology (Printing Press, New Media), horizontalism, and geographical differences (OWS, 15M).
Some frank criticism of contemporary activism here. Can’t help but think the concept of scale is rather crucial, as much as I don’t want to say it.
